AeroGarden Harvest XL vs. Aerogarden Harvest – This article will help you decide between the AeroGarden Harvest and the Harvest XL.
For a good reason, the AeroGarden Harvest is the most popular model. It’s big enough to grow a lot of different kinds of vegetables, and the price is still fair. But the AeroGarden Bounty is a lot more expensive and bigger than the Harvest.
The AeroGarden Harvest XL is a good middle ground between the Harvest and the Bounty.
But is it better than the Harvest enough to make the extra cost worth it? In this article, I’ll talk about the pros and cons of the AeroGarden Harvest vs. the AeroGarden Harvest XL so you can decide which one to buy.

Harvest vs. Harvest XL: Pros and Cons
Now, let’s talk about the details of each of the above AeroGarden Harvest and Harvest XL features.
Price
The price is the first thing to compare between the AeroGarden Harvest and the Harvest XL.
I usually find the best deals on AeroGardens on Amazon. Check out the prices on Amazon for the AeroGarden Harvest:
The price is hard to pin down because even the prices on the AeroGarden website change, so take this information about prices with a grain of salt.
On the AeroGarden website, the retail price of the Harvest is listed as $164.95 and the retail price of the Harvest XL is $249.95. But here’s what’s going on. On the AeroGarden website, the retail price is always crossed out and a lower price is shown.
Be aware of this, because just because the retail price is written down doesn’t mean it’s on sale. This just gives the impression that it’s on sale.
Here are the prices that are currently “on sale” at AeroGarden:
Aerogarden Harvest: $129.95
Aerogarden Harvest XL: $199.95
On the AeroGarden website, the price difference between the Harvest and the Harvest XL is $85; however, the real difference is usually closer to $70.

Harvest Vs. Harvest XL lets you grow pods.
When it comes to how many grow pods there are, both the Harvest and the Harvest XL have 6. The grow pods are also set up the same way, with two in the back, two in the middle, and two in the front.
The biggest difference between the Harvest and the Harvest XL is that the Harvest XL’s grow pods are more spread out.
As you can see in the diagram above, the grow pods on the Harvest are about 8.25 inches apart from left to right, both on top and on bottom. On the Harvest XL, they are about 9.5 inches apart, giving about 1.25 inches more growing space.
On both the Harvest and the Harvest XL, the two grow pods in the middle are 4.5″ apart.
On both the left and right sides, from top to bottom, the grow pods are about 4.5 inches apart on the Harvest and 5 inches apart on the Harvest XL. This means that the Harvest XL has.5 inches more growing space.
From top left to bottom right, the Harvest is about 9 inches and the Harvest XL is about 10.25 inches. Going from the bottom left to the top right is, of course, the same.
Is it worth it to have more room for grow pods in the Harvest XL?
The difference between the Harvest and the Harvest XL isn’t that big, but the Harvest has a bit less space between the grow pods than the Harvest XL.
This means that you might be able to grow a few more plants in the Harvest XL than you could in the Harvest, or you might be able to grow plants that are a little fuller in the Harvest XL.
As an example, I chose to grow 2 dwarf green bean plants in the Harvest and 3 in the Harvest XL.
Harvest vs. Harvest XL for Growing Height in the AeroGarden
Now, let’s talk about how the height of the plants grows differently in the AeroGarden Harvest and Harvest XL.
The main reason I bought the Harvest XL was because it had more room to grow. Here’s what you need to know.
In the AeroGarden Harvest, the lowest light height is about 4.5 inches and the highest is about 12 inches. In the Harvest XL, the lowest light height is about 6.5 inches and the highest is about 18 inches.
When it comes to growing taller plants, the extra 6 inches of grow height in the Harvest XL makes a huge difference. For example, you can grow jalapeno peppers in both the Harvest and the Harvest XL, but you have to prune the Harvest a lot more to make it work.
A second example is that I can grow Swiss chard in both the Harvest and the Harvest XL, but the extra height of the Harvest XL lets me grow leaves that are bigger.
In the end, the Harvest XL gives you a better yield than the Harvest, except for plants that naturally grow no higher than 12 inches.
Between the Two Models, Light Size and Strength
The size and power of the lights is the next big difference between the AeroGarden Harvest and the Harvest XL. The Harvest has a 20W LED grow light, as you can see in the picture above. The Harvest XL has a 30W LED grow light.
The light on the Harvest XL is also about 2.25 inches wider on one side and about.5 inches wider on the other.
