How to Grow AeroGarden Berries
Pick and Plant the Strawberry Seeds
Growing strawberries in your AeroGarden takes a little more effort than most other crops. Unfortunately, there are no pre-made strawberry seed pods available, so no AeroGarden strawberries from seeds. You’ll have to make your own.
Strawberry plants grown from seeds can take two to three years to mature and begin bearing fruit. However, with a little time and effort, you can still get fantastic results with your AeroGarden by using Grow Anything pods and planting them with strawberry crowns.
You will need the following items to grow strawberry plants in your AeroGarden system:
- Grow Anything Seed Pod Kits from AeroGarden
- Crowns of strawberries
- Sprout, Harvest, Bounty, and Farm Family AeroGarden Indoor Garden Kits
Aerogarden does not sell strawberry crowns directly, but they can be purchased at garden centers or online. Here are some excellent online options:
- 10 Eversweet Everbearing Strawberry Plants- Everbearing strawberries are harvested twice a year.
- Hirt’s Gardens – Plants of Everbearing Ozark Strawberry
- Organic Strawberry Plants from Jewel
On the AeroGarden website, you can find a variety of seed pod options for growing fruits and vegetables, including the ability to create your own package of 6, 9, or more seed pods.
Now that you have everything you need to grow AeroGarden strawberries, let’s look at how to plant them.
Strawberry Planting
If you are growing a new plant and have previously used your Aerogarden, you will need to sanitize your garden before you begin. This eliminates any root pathogens that could harm your crop.
Simply follow the steps below to sanitize the AeroGarden.
Fill the reservoir with fresh water and either 1/4 cup (0.95 liter) chlorine bleach or 5 cups (1.18 liter) white vinegar.
Using an air pump, circulate this mixture through the Aerogarden system for at least 5 minutes.
After that, rinse the reservoir and refill it with cool fresh water, then circulate it through the system for another 5 minutes.
Remove the water tank.
The nutrient timer should be reset.
You’re all set to start growing strawberries!
Because you’re growing strawberries from crowns rather than seeds, you don’t need to use the Grow Anything pods’ grow sponges unless the roots are small. Most of the time, the grow sponge can be discarded or saved for future use.
The steps below will walk you through the process of planting strawberries in AeroGarden grow baskets.
Strawberry crowns are typically packed in dirt, so carefully separate the crowns from each other and remove as much of the excess dirt as possible. This is best rinsed off with fresh, room temperature water.
Fill the water reservoir to the “Fill to Here” mark with room temperature tap water or distilled water.
It is best not to use mineral or softened water, as this can impede or even harm plant growth.
Remove the grow sponge and feed the strawberry roots gently through the plastic grow basket. The plant’s crown should be higher than the top of the sponge or basket. The root system is usually too large for the sponges.
If the roots are small, you will need to prepare a grow sponge. Cut a wet grow sponge in half with a pair of scissors; if the roots are longer, cut the sponge a little lower down to accommodate the root length. After that, gently place the roots inside the sponge.
Place the grow baskets, with or without the sponge, into the seed pod slots on the AeroGarden’s grow deck. If using a sponge, feed it through the grow basket label first.
For nutrients, add the liquid plant food to your AeroGarden. Fill the AeroGarden with the appropriate amount of nutrient liquid, as directed on the bottle. At any stage of the growing cycle, it is critical not to overfeed or underfeed the plants, but this is especially important at this stage. Over/underfeeding can cause root growth issues.
Reduce the AeroGarden’s grow light to 2-4 inches (5.08-10.16 cm) above the top of the plants. Adjust the grow light height to maintain this distance throughout the growth cycle for optimal growth.
AeroGarden Berries: Growing and Caring
After you’ve planted your crowns, let’s look at how to grow and care for your strawberry plants. With a little care and attention, your plants could be producing fruit in less than a month.
It is critical to ensure that the liquid plant nutrients and water levels are adequate in the AeroGarden system, as they are in all hydroponic systems.
Some pointers include not waiting until the water level is dangerously low before refilling the container. Plants appreciate clean, fresh water. To keep the water with nutrients balanced, top it up frequently.
As previously stated, it is also critical that when adding nutrients to the grow bowl, you use the exact amount specified on the bottle. This should be done every two weeks, and the AeroGarden’s Nutrient timer should alert you when it’s time to add nutrients.
Because you’ll be adding liquid nutrients frequently, the 1 liter size of Liquid Plant Food can provide more than 100 AeroGarden feedings.

Growing Raspberries
Raspberries are delicious in desserts, beverages, and smoothies. They’re also tasty on their own and can be combined with chocolate or yoghurt. The good news is that you can grow them easily in your Aerogarden!
The disadvantage is that there are no raspberry seed pod kits available. As a result, you’ll have to make them yourself. However, the process is worthwhile. You can have delectable berries in no time.
